A number of letting agent and landlord Users are not providing their tenant’s contact details when lodging deposits with mydeposits Scotland. It is vitally important that landlords and agent Users provide the contact details of their tenants, otherwise it could cause problems at the end of the tenancy.
Releasing the deposit
Providing you and your tenant agree over the return of the deposit at the end of tenancy, you must both authorise its release. You and your tenant will have separate unique release codes that you must input before we’re able to pay it back.
We are only able to communicate with the tenant if the landlord or agent has given us their tenant’s contact details and without this we can't provide them with vital information about their deposit. This includes the deposit release code, with which both parties need to authorise the release of the deposit. Without this authorisation, we simply can't pay it back.
As this is the only way that mydeposits Scotland is able to get in touch with the tenant it means that the release of the deposit at the end of the tenancy could become a drawn-out and complicated process, when in reality it’s designed to be as quick and simple as possible.
Make sure you provide your tenant’s contact details when registering the deposit or it could prove more hassle than it’s worth.
