Scotland landlord registration applications: Prescribed Information update

Prescribed Information went live for landlords letting property in Scotland on 16 September 2019. This change requires landlords to declare their compliance, or otherwise, with the various obligations involved in letting property when they make a new or renewal application.

These obligations are not new; landlords should already be meeting them if they are letting property in Scotland. But it is hoped that bringing them to the fore during the application process will help remind landlords of the steps they must take in order to be compliant with the law.

Initial indications reveal that some landlords are declaring non-compliance across some key safety obligations, such as GasSafe and smoke and fire detection. Local authorities are actively engaging with these landlords to rectify any issues, before the application is approved.

Where landlords cannot or will not meet their obligations the application for registration cannot be approved, so it is important to make sure you are compliant.
