Unite join my|deposits Scotland - 21 June 2012

UNITE, the UK’s leading provider of student accommodation, have chosen my|deposits Scotland to provide Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP) for their student lets.

In Scotland UNITE provides homes for 4,331 students in 15 properties across Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The decision was announced after a rigorous tender process and comes about due to the introduction of TDP legislation in Scotland, which launches on 2nd July.

my|deposits Scotland has been formally approved by Scottish Government to operate a TDP scheme in Scotland. The legislation will require UNITE (and all other landlords and letting agents) to lodge their tenancy deposit with a Government-licenced scheme to safeguard for the duration of the tenancy.

Students can rest assured that their deposit money is in safe hands and that it will be returned quickly and fairly at the end of the tenancy.

my|deposits have operated a similar scheme in England and Wales since 2007, protecting almost £1.5billion worth of deposits on behalf of nearly 90 thousand members and consistently meeting all targets set by the UK Government.

Eddie Hooker, CEO of my|deposits Scotland commented:

“We’re delighted that UNITE has chosen to partner with my|deposits Scotland and we plan to build on the successful relationship we’ve had since UNITE chose us as their TDP provider in England and Wales in 2007.

“This move means that UNITE can continue to focus on enhancing the already fantastic service they provide to their students in Scotland, while being safe in the knowledge they are complying with the TDP legislation”.

Gary Denham, Commercial Sourcing Manager, UNITE, added:

“The flexible and robust business model provided by my|deposits Scotland made this an easy choice for us."

“My|deposits Scotland has a reputation for outstanding support and customer service and have developed smart and efficient online systems that will really reduce the administrative burden of the new legislation."

“The online bulk deposit uploader and dispute resolution service will ensure that our staff can complete their deposit tasks quickly.”

From Monday 2 July 2012, all landlords and agents will be able to join, protect deposits and comply with the new legislation.

In the meantime landlords and agents can visit the my|deposit Scotland website www.mydepositsscotland.co.uk for further information, essential guidance and a schedule of TDP workshops in Scotland.
