UNITE, the UK’s leading provider of student accommodation, have chosen my|deposits Scotland to provide Tenancy Deposit Protection (TDP) for their student lets.
In Scotland UNITE provides homes for 4,331 students in 15 properties across Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh. The decision was announced after a rigorous tender process and comes about due to the introduction of TDP legislation in Scotland, which launches on 2nd July.
my|deposits Scotland has been formally approved by Scottish Government to operate a TDP scheme in Scotland. The legislation will require UNITE (and all other landlords and letting agents) to lodge their tenancy deposit with a Government-licenced scheme to safeguard for the duration of the tenancy.
Students can rest assured that their deposit money is in safe hands and that it will be returned quickly and fairly at the end of the tenancy.
my|deposits have operated a similar scheme in England and Wales since 2007, protecting almost £1.5billion worth of deposits on behalf of nearly 90 thousand members and consistently meeting all targets set by the UK Government.

From Monday 2 July 2012, all landlords and agents will be able to join, protect deposits and comply with the new legislation.

The Tenancy Deposit Schemes (Scotland) Regulations 2011 came into force on 7 March 2011. The Regulations set out the conditions that all schemes must meet before they can be approved by the Scottish Ministers. Landlords and letting agents wishing to use this scheme are required to register with the Scheme Administrator.
