Your rights about your deposit
By law, if you pay a deposit to your landlord or letting agent then they must protect it in a government-authorised tenancy deposit scheme.
The law was introduced to ensure that you are able to get your deposit back from your landlord or agent when you move out provided you’ve met the terms of your tenancy agreement.

We are authorised by the Scottish Government to safeguard tenancy deposits for the duration of the tenancy. Once your landlord or agent has lodged the deposit it is kept in a safe bank account by us until the end of the tenancy. Both you and your landlord or agent must authorise its return by using your unique deposit release codes. If you cannot agree over any proposed deductions to the deposit we offer an impartial dispute resolution service to resolve the dispute.
